There are a number of reasons why you may snore.

* Age can be a factor. The older you get, the weaker your throat muscles become. Weak throat muscles cause the surrounding tissues to sag and vibrate.
* If you are overweight, your throat tissues are less firm and more inclined to vibrate when you breathe.
* A low-set, thick soft palate, or enlarged tonsils or adenoids (the spongy tissue between the back of the nose and throat) can narrow your airway.
* A longer-than-normal uvula (the triangular piece of skin that hangs from your soft palate) can limit airflow and increase vibrations as you breathe.
* Nasal blockages caused by allergies or a deviated septum (when the partition between your nose is crooked) can limit airflow through your nose. This forces you to breathe through your mouth where more flabby tissue is located.
* Alcohol and certain drugs (such as tranquillisers) affect your central nervous system, causing extreme relaxation of your muscles, including those in your throat.
* When you sleep on your back, your tongue falls backwards into your throat which can narrow your airway and partly block airflow.

How Do you sleep with a snoring Partner?

It keeps me awake every night until 12 am , and I go to bed at 9 or ten o clock. I’ve tried coming up earlier, but it’s just too early. I’ve tried earplugs and listening to music, but it still won’t block the sound. We do have a spare room but no bed as we’ve just moved in? Help ? Thanks

Have your partner see a doctor. There are some great treatments available.

Also, it may not eliminate it every time, but have him/her sleep on their side really helps.

Is sleep apnea permanent?

I was diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea in October 2003. I have been using a CPAP machine ever since. I started out at an air pressure of 9, but over time ended up at a pressure of 14. Back in January of this year (2007), I began following a steady exercise program and lost fifteen pounds. My doctor had me re-evaluated through another sleep study, and my pressure was reduced to the original pressure of 9. I am sleeping better and feeling better. I view my sleep apnea as being a result of my overweight body, and because I was able to lower my pressure through exercise and weight loss, is it possible to “cure” my sleep apnea if I keep on exercising and losing weight?

Yes, I still have my tonsils. The doctor I see for my sleep apnea has not mentioned my tonsils as being part of the problem. He mostly centers on weight loss and is happy whenever I report any amount of loss. He’s very encouraging.

Sleep apnea is able to be cured with good health and strong lungs. When you exercise practice good breathing, deep breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. Practice breathing right. Most people forget ‘how’ to breath even though most are born with the instinct of doing correctly, we simply uncorrected it. You’ll notice when a baby is breathing the stomach goes up and down. A child, young adult or adult who has forgotten how to breath correctly with breath with their full bodies, shoulders moving up and down. If you’re not sure how you breathe, lay down on the ground and place a book on your stomach to see if it moves when you breathe. Breathing correctly will help your lungs.

My daughter had sleep apnea, came of CPAP, had to wear an alarm for a while but with increasing good health was able to come off and it’s been gone for years now.

How to cure a snoring problem?

It’s hard falling asleep to someone you like when you CANNOT sleep! The person has already been to a sleeping clinic, and even tries to sleep on his sides (which helps you stop snoring)… is there anything else you can do to help it tone down or just stop altogether? It’s driving me crazy, and it’s really really loud and sounds like their spazing out sometimes.

My mother snores very loud too, and we can hear her snores from across the house. I told her to read some free info’s online on how to stop snoring and she starts practicing it, like, sleep and wake up at fix time everyday, it helps a little. Maybe you can try get him read free tips u can find online, see if some could help him at least reduce snoring.

Listen, stopping snoring is a lot more simple than what you’ve read.

I was a chronic snorer – and it was causing all kinds of problems with my girlfriend.

I tried everything that you could buy from the pharmacy – i bouth nasal strips – throat sprays – lost wieght – everything.

my bf is a snorer…it’s driving me bananas!!..are sleep doctors expensive?

I’m literally going insane with his snoring…it’s like sleeping next to a big broken truck reving up…in fact it’s probably more annoying…and i’ve been with him more than 3 years…i’m a light sleeper too…it seems the only time I could sleep through the night is if I’ve consumed alcohol or sleeping pills or I’ve been so sleep deprived therefore so exhausted on the 3rd or fourth day that i would completely knock out….and then the cycle would start again…i try not to take sleeping pills because it makes me feel woozy the next day…

Nothing has helped…he quit smoking for a year now….he is a drinker..but he doesnt drink everyday…i don’t know if that’s the case….he is a social drinker so i dont think he’ll quit completely…but if he was to go a month without drinking…it woudl sound just as loudly as if he did…sleeping on his side doesn’t help either….he is a tad bit overweight…but it’s just a little…i do make him nwork out..and it’s helped like a tiny teeny bit….

I think he does have sleep apnea because he would sometimes stop breathing for like 15-20 seconds and then snore really loud afterwards…I know i should sleep in another room but i dont like sleeping by myself…and really i don’t like sleeping without him either

I called a couple of doctors today and they are expensive…consultations by itself is 200…and than it ranges from 800-2400 afterwards…he does have insurance but still that’s still expensive…

I just want to know if there are any alternatives that is cheaper and that works!…I’m so desperate…and also does sleep apnea correlate with premature ejaculation?? while sleeping he’s deprived of oxygen right??..i wonder if that relates…..He’s never gone longer than two minutes, a lot of times it could be like 15 or 30 seconds…although he’s never had a problem getting hard…or getting hard again…

lastly he works out pretty well since i got him into it….and his body has toned up a bit…he was never flabby to begin with…but now u can see some minor definition….but like i said he has been working out for a year..i figured his body should be more developed…his friends that work out with him have all sculpted out a muscular body…although they are thinner though…he works out about 5 times a week…about 1 hour to 2 hours each time…i wonder if sleep apnea is hindering his body’s ability to build those muscles as well??

I do love him but we need to cure his snoring problem…i don’t know how much longer i can take this….

Ok. Classic symtoms of sleep apnea. This is a semi-serious problem. The doc will prescribe him a c-pap machine. Google it.

If he’ll use the thing, he and you are very likely to sleep much better, and consequently, feel and function much better. But, he’ll still snore when not using the gadget.

There may be a fix for the cause of his snoring. Google for that too, and check with a ear, nose, throat (ENT) doc.

Down side is he’s got to be willing to cooperate.
